I work with an IT Consulting company as a Principal Consultant (Oracle Applications) and provide remote support to the clients in the US. We have a team of consultants in the US which does Marketing and Client interactions. We on the offshore side do all the dirty/technical stuff.
The time zone that India lies in gives it an advantage in terms of working as an offshore partner with US. These days we are 10 hrs 30 mins ahead EST time zone in US which means right now where it is 2:30AM Jan 02 in India, its 4 PM Jan 01 in US.
I have never loved doing the graveyard shift or the night shift which runs whole night. It's easy to be awake till 2, but after 2 it gets tough to stay awake keep working. Lesser the work more sleepy one feels. I was so relaxed during the day today and being a Sunday night I expected very little work and was planning to have nice sleep during the night. But things usually don't turn up as planned and I have a lot of things to finish before I hit the bed. I am not sure what my team has been doing this weekend. Maybe everyone was in a holiday mode enjoying the New Year with friends and family. But this is how weekends are supposed to be, especially the special ones. Most of my team mates were partying hard on 31st and I don't expect them to have done a lot of work today. Then why should I be taken as an exception and expected to work on the first night of the New Year. But here I am working and doing the dreaded graveyard shift. With 3 hrs still to go, I am already feeling sleep crawl into my head thru my eyes which are already heavy wanting to sleep.
